"NIRMAL HRIDAY - House for the Dying in Kalighat - Calcutta INDIA"

德蕾莎修女创立的「仁爱之家」"垂死者之家"- 印度

"Be as humble as you can, I came to learn..

...and not only to serve, but also to listen to each story"

 The Faith continues...不離不棄不捨的誓言...

September 2007 marks the biggest decision of my life...going to the "First Love of Mother Teresa" of Calcutta in Kalighat - Nirmal Hriday "House for the Dying" to learn humblely to serve the poorest of the poor.

This month is 10 years anniversary after the death of Mother Teresa and her works and spirit through 'Missionaries of Charities' continues to impress me.

There are approx. 100 patients for both female & male. Many of them were picked up from the local market or train station; badly wounded; abandoned by the family and has nothing more than just waiting to pass away, that's why is called 'House for the Dying'.

As volunteers, we have to do many things, including washing cloths by hand, cleaning the bed; carrying the patients to toilet; feeding medicines and foods; provide drinkable water; washing dishes, massages and execises, and many of them suffered of paralysis and tuberculosis, many sorts of skin deceases, bedsores, infections, etc...

There are so many stories to tell... I could only cry at night when I write my diary... Why there are so much suffering in the World? and I was so lucky to have the chance to come and learn...

Even when we can't communicate well, sometimes I feel their friendship

The Sister Chung Ai taking care of one patient.

First day to visit Mother Teresa Tomb in Mother's House and become a registered volunteer...Next Day starts all the wonderful works!

bullet

Toughest Job: carry the patients to the toilet...

bullet

Most shocking experience: cleaning some of the wounds... you have no idea what you have to face here.

bullet

Most enjoyable experience: giving massage to some of the patients with the best piano music of my I-pod and talking to the volunteers at the roof with a Masala tea after finished work everyday.

bullet

My doubts: why so much suffering in this place? What can I do to help even more? What dignity I can give before they die?... why I'm here?

bullet

Lesson of the trip: Everyday is a new learning experience... God was too good to me, not one single day was wasted.

bullet

Biggest Challenge: not to cry during the day, but try to give them the best smile during the services...

Some of daily works... hanging cloths on the roof...

Last day with Sister Anila from Albania, where Mother Teresa comes from...

'We must not drift away from the humble works, because these are the works nobody will do. They are never too small. We are so small we look at things in a small way. Even if we do a small thing for somebody, GOD, being almighty, sees everything as great" - Mother Teresa teaching.

I can have a nice Masala Tea right outside of Kalighat right after work...

The view from the roof of Kalighat to the street

Sometimes, when power is cut off...working in the dark is fun...

The best place to learn about what is TRUE  LOVE!... my highest appreciation to those who sacrificed themselves and put so much dedication to the patients, They are the 'walking angels' in my heart.

Special thanks to Sister Superior Glenda, who allows me to take so many pictures on the last day... Also, sister Chung Ai, Anila, Conchita,Adrianne and Olinda for writing me so many beautiful messages on the M.C. book and teaching me so much about how to serve the patients in the weeks.

"Premdam - another house of Mother Teresa"

The cases here are less severe than those from Kalighat, but have more patients and the experience is equally amazing...

"There is much suffering in the World - but I still think that the greatest suffering is being lonely, feeling un loved, just having no one" - Mother Teresa

The station "Park Circus" just next to Premdam - Missionaries of Charities.-

"TOMORROW'S  FOUNDATION"

A foundation created by French and now managed by local Indian to help the street children by providing education, food and hostel.

They are presently handling approx. 350 street children.- I visited the head office and School.

Sponsoring a child would need approx. 1''750 ruppies (approx. HK$350) per month.

This is the hostel where the children stay.

"LES  GALOPINS  DE CALCUTTA"

www.galopinsdecalcutta.org

A foundation created by French and picks up the street children to provide them with Education, a home and food.

They are children below 10 years old and we shared a wonderful lunch after just returning from the morning school.

A lady named Fabienne Fichet is taking care of this place right now.

There are approx. 40 children in this place and some older ones have been sent to boarding school.

My friend Ip Pui brings me to this place which is a bit far and hidden.

My Life in Kolkata (formerly known as Calcutta)

This is my bed with some medical supplies... including the Cotton Balls donated by Red Cross HK.

It was hot and even with fan, I couldn't sleep well and have insomnia for the first 9 nights...probably GOD wants me to think and medidate more about what is happening each day.

This is what happen when flooded, the picture taken when coming out of Kalighat

With my good friend Pui in a local cafe... the Paneer is what I like the most. Paneer is actually cheese which help me to gain some weight and energy.

Make sure you eat only well-cooked foods and drink bottle water.

Thanks so much to Pui for taking care of me and sharing so much about this wonderful place.

"...I have to come back to Hong Kong because my baptize ceremony was set on 29 Sept 2007, otherwise I would stay much longer, since my heart is with Calcutta India!
